Can the UK do without petrol?

Posted in News, Sustainability

3000 miles… and no petrol.

Electric cars. Won’t you just end up stranded, having run out of charge?

They sound like a great idea; zero-emission cars powered by batteries. And yet, there is the obvious fear that one will find themselves stranded in the middle of nowhere, perhaps having to seek help in some remote pub reminiscent of American Werewolf in London.

Charging Around Britain are a company based in Liverpool whose interest is sustainability, renewable energy, and collaboration. Having set out from the city ten days ago, they are taking on the challenge. At the time of writing they are in the far reaches of Northern Scotland, and in their Tesla electric car are driving over 3000 miles around the coast of our fair isle – just to prove the point.

An incredible road trip

On the way they will be investigating eco-friendly organisations, checking out some of the most innovative social enterprises in the country, and providing us all with a huge boost to the sustainability movement. This will prove that the infrastructure is there to support electric vehicles, and will put another nail in the coffin of fossil fuels.

They are using the hashtag #Adventure1 for their first experiment. Sustainable Liverpool is already speaking to the team about collaborating on their next project. In the meantime, we wish them luck in this epic undertaking.
